Traffic chaos as M62 closed in West Yorkshire

The carriageway was blocked with queueing traffic between junction 34, the A19 at Selby, and junction 33 at Ferrybridge Services.

Police said a an accident involving a van and a car had caused the closure. An air ambulance landed at the scene and a woman was airlifted to hospital.

Driver Steve Potts tweeted at 3.45pm that traffic had been at a standstill for nearly an hour.

Police tweeted that the road had “fully reopened” just after 4pm. But the length of tailbacks was expected to cause residual tailbacks into the afternoon rush hour.
