Video: This amazing video of a lightning storm shows a strike in detail at 700 frames per second
The series of bolts spread down from the sky before striking the ground in a huge explosion.
The storm happened a few days ago on May 20 near a campus of the Florida Institute of Technology. The high-speed camera actually recorded the strike at 7,000 frames per second, but the video has been speeded up to 700 fps for better viewing. The video was captured as part of a testing process for the camera by FIT. It is hoped it will be able to capture and study the dynamics and energetics of the upward electrical discharges from thunderstorms known as starters, jets and gigantic jets.
