Weather warning of snow and ice in Yorkshire as temperatures set to plummet

A warning of snow and ice has been issued for Yorkshire.

The Met Office predicts severe weather could hit the region overnight, bringing travel disruption.

The yellow weather warning lasts from 9pm tonight (Wednesday) until 10am tomorrow.

Temperatures are expected to plummet to 0C overnight, with wintry showers and snow likely in "many areas".

Forecasters warn to expect longer journey times by road, bus and train and possible injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

The Met Office forecast for Yorkshire says: "Showers, with blustery winds, becoming more frequent and increasingly wintry during the evening, with risk of snow in many areas.

"Showers will ease later. It will feel cold in the wind, with icy stretches possible on untreated surfaces. Minimum temperature 0C.

"On Thursday, early morning wintry showers clearing, then dry and sunny with cold winds.

"Further showers and strengthening winds are expected later, locally heavy and wintry over hills.

"Maximum temperature 8C."
