Yellow weather warning issued for Yorkshire as region braces for strong winds

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Yorkshire as the region braces for winds of up to 40mph.

The two-day Met Office warning has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday and covers West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and The Humber.

Forecasters warn strong winds and gales are likely to bring travel disruption.

Drivers of high-sided vehicles should avoid exposed routes and bridges.

Buses and trains could also be affected, with journeys likely to take longer than usual.

Unplanned power cuts are also possible.

Tonight's forecast for Yorkshire and the Humber:

Scattered outbreaks of locally heavy rain will continue overnight, and are likely to become more persistent and perhaps thundery by morning. Minimum temperature 12C

Monday's forecast for Yorkshire and the Humber:

Outbreaks of locally heavy and thundery rain will clear east during the morning to leave some sunny spells and the odd shower, but becoming dry by evening. Maximum temperature 18C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Outbreaks of locally heavy rain spreading northeast on Tuesday and becoming windy with hill and coastal gales.

Rain soon clearing Wednesday with winds easing, but further rain possible on Thursday.
