Web guide to reservoir walks aims to highlight hidden gems

YORKSHIRE Water has launched a series of walks based around the region's reservoirs, to highlight the stunning landscapes of lesser-known areas such as Langsett, Ogden and Blackmoorfoot.

The downloadable walking guide includes 18 reservoir walks from Nidderdale in the north to Bradfield in the south, which are suitable for both experienced and novice ramblers.

Among the featured walks are Swinsty and Fewston, near Harrogate, Langsett, near Sheffield, and Tophill Low nature reserve in Driffield, which now have visitor facilities including easy-access paths, information boards, toilets and picnic sites.

Geoff Lomas, recreation and catchment manager at Yorkshire Water, said: "We look after 72,000 acres in Yorkshire, spanning the North York Moors, the Wolds, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and some of the best national parks in the country and spend thousands of pounds each year maintaining and enhancing our sites for people to enjoy.

"However, we recognise that a lot of our customers simply don't know about our recreational sites, or the fact most of them are free and offer a range of recreational activities. We want to change this and we hope that through this downloadable guide we'll be able to introduce existing walkers to new walks and encourage more people to get out and explore Yorkshire's delights."
