Week of music and dance on way

A WEEK-long music and dance festival will take place in Barnsley next month.

Acts confirmed to be taking part in the event, which runs from Friday, March 12 to Sunday, March 21, include the Eliza Carthy Band, the Demon Barber Roadshow, Lau, Dave Burland, Jez Lowe and Martin Simpson.

On March 12 the festival will begin with a ceilidh at Shaw Lane Cricket Club. This will be followed, during the week, by a number of workshops at Kingstone School led by members of the Demon Barbers Roadshow. On March 19 the Eliza Carthy Band will play at the Civic with guitarist Dave Burland.

On the following Saturday the festival moves to Kingstone School, with a full programme of concerts and workshops.

Festival spokesman Stephen Dolman said: "It is fantastic to have a week-long festival back in the town."

Tickets for all events are available from the Civic box office on 0845 1800 363. A weekend ticket for all performances from March 19 to 21 costs 40 and day tickets cost 15.
