Weekend opening at south Leeds GP practices

The practices will work together to ensure that patients can access a joint service at Windsor House Surgery, in Corporation Street, Morley, which will open every Saturday from 8am to noon.

Windsor House Surgery, Gildersome Health Centre, Morley Health Centre, Drighlington Medical Centre, South Queen Street Medical Centre and Fountain Medical Centre have joined forces in the move.

It is the latest development in a £9m project set up by NHS Leeds West Clinical Commissioning Group in a bid to improve patients’ access to GP services.

It has already seen patients in other areas benefit from extended hours on evenings and weekends.

Dr Rob Arnold, GP at Windsor House Surgery, said: “It’s important for patients to access appointments quickly at a time that suits them.

“People who work during the day or evening may not be able to attend an appointment from Monday to Friday, so a Saturday morning appointment will be ideal for them.”

Patient watchdog Healthwatch Leeds will speak to more than 400 patients from GP practices with extended hours to gauge public opinion next year.
