Weekly rubbish collections to alternate

New waste and recycling collections begin in the Craven district on Monday February 15.

Craven District Council is reminding all residents to make sure they are ready for the changes and have received the various items they need.

Under the new system, each household will get a collection every week with recyclable and non-recyclable waste collected on alternative weeks.

Non-recyclables will be taken from a green bin and recyclables will be in either a blue sack and/or blue bin.

Councillor Paul Whitaker, Craven Council's lead member for the environment, said: "We have received a very positive response from our residents by making these improvements and thank everybody for working with us to introduce the new collection arrangements as efficiently as possible.

"Residents have been crying out for more doorstep recycling and in particular to be able to recycle the most commonly used plastics. I am pleased to see so many residents ready to embrace these changes."

People should have information packs and calendars, blue bins and blue sacks.

Anyone who has not received blue sacks and a blue bin by this coming Friday should call the council's alternate weekly collection helpline and staff will make arrangements to deliver them to residents.

Alternatively, people can collect blue bags from either the town halls in Skipton and Settle or from Craven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre in Skipton.

The council's alternate weekly collection Helpline on 01756 706330 is open between 8.45am and 5.15pm, Monday to Thursday; from 8.45am to 4.45pm, Friday and from 9am until 1pm on Saturday.

Settle Town Hall is open from 9am to 4pm, Tuesday and Friday. Skipton Town Hall is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday; from 9am to 4.45pm on Friday and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday.

People are being reminded to check their calendars to see when their first collections are due under the new scheme.
