It feature cyclists in Victorian costume, talks on the history of cycling including penny farthing demonstrations, a bike doctor to answer any bike questions, as well as free ice cream, face-painting, a bucking bronco and a bouncy castle.

The event follows the completion of a 15m Yorkshire Water scheme to install an eight-mile sewer pipe along the route of the Greenway between Heckmondwike and its recently upgraded Mitchell Laithes treatment works in Earlsheaton, Dewsbury.

The installation of the pipe is part of a wider 90m investment in Kirklees by the company to meet the requirements of the Freshwater Fish Directive – a piece of legislation that will help improve the quality of water in the rivers Spen and Calder to a standard not seen since before the Industrial Revolution.
