WELLINGTONS were the footwear of the day in Leeds yesterday as hardy souls took part in a sponsored dog walk in very wet conditions.

Many of the walkers taking part brought their dogs to Temple Newsam, near Leeds, as well as their waterproofs and umbrellas.

Actress Nicola Wheeler, who plays Nicola King in TV soap Emmerdale, cut the ribbon to officially start the Leeds Waggy Walk – a sponsored event for dog lovers organised by the Dogs Trust.

They were among dog lovers up and down the country who put on their walking shoes to raise some much needed cash for the Dogs Trust yesterday.

There were 10 walks taking place throughout the UK, at locations including London, Brighton, Belfast and Glasgow. Walkers had the option of choosing from two routes; one 5km and one of 10km.

All funds raised by Waggy Walks will go directly to help look after the many hundreds of dogs in the charity’s care. Last year the walk raised 85,000.
