We're comforted that they died together, say children left orphaned by crash deaths

THREE children left orphaned when their parents were killed by a car speeding away from police paid tribute to them yesterday.

Thames Valley Police named the couple as Annelise and Duncan Storrar, a week after the crash in Reading town centre, Berkshire.

Mr Storrar, 54, and his 49-year-old wife had been travelling in a Chevrolet Matiz last Wednesday night when they were hit by a Ford Mondeo.

The driver of that car had been seen jumping a red light at the junction of Castle Hill and Tilehurst Road before a police car started its pursuit, with blue lights flashing. The accident happened shortly afterwards, and the Storrars died at the scene.

In a joint statement, their children David, 23, Kathryn, 22, and 18-year-old Ross said: “Our parents were the most caring, likeable individuals, who touched many lives.

“They were always there for us, they always put our wellbeing over their own and we feel privileged to have had the unconditional support of the two most important people in our lives.

“Nothing can replace the love they had for us. The only comforting thought that remains is that they are still together and will forever be in our hearts.”

They asked to be left to grieve in private.

The Mondeo driver, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for information about the crash and believe three pedestrians seen in the area at the time may have important information. They are asked to call the force at the Operation Topaz incident room on 08458 505505.

An investigation into the police officers’ actions on the night is being managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
