West Yorkshire Police and firefighters rush to car blaze near Shell garage in Saltaire

Emergency services rushed to deal with a car fire on a main road in Bradford tonight.

Firefighters, police and ambulance crew members attended Bingley Road, Saltaire, after 9.30pm.

Officers could be heard shouting at drivers and bystanders to keep away from the flaming white car next to a crossing by row of shops which includes Dressed In Saltaire.

What appeared to be a damaged taxi could be seen stationary on the pavement opposite.

Authorities have not yet said how the incident occurred or whether anyone is hurt.

Traffic was stopped from moving while emergency workers dealt with the incident and high winds blew black smoke around the area.

The fire was extinguished before 10pm and officers taped off the area, remaining at the scene at the time of publication.

Bingley Road is a main route through Saltaire and used by a number of bus services.
