What are the odds on that? Presenting my beautiful triplets

A WOMAN in West Yorkshire has defied odds of 160,000-1 to give birth to naturally conceived identical triplet boys.

Sabrina McGarry, 29, gave birth to her tiny three sons, George, Alex and Thomas six weeks early - and despite the little boys all weighing under 4lbs they are now doing well after spending three weeks in hospital.

The 5ft tall mother-of-four was called a "walking miracle" by doctors for managing to carry the three for 34 weeks - even though it was thought she would need to deliver them prior to 30 weeks - before she underwent a speedy caesarean which delivered her boys in under 120 seconds.

Ms McGarry, who lives in Sowerby Bridge with boyfriend James, a 25 year-old sheet metal worker, said: "I was pre-booked to have my caesarean on the Monday and I must admit I was very worried the day before. They took me through to theatre at 11.45am and by 12.10pm George was on his way.

"As soon as they cut me open the first one was on his way ' it was unreal how quick he came. I think the average caesarean for one baby takes about 40 minutes but mine was over and done with in about 25 minutes.

"I expected the three babies were going to be about 15 minutes apart, I didn't expect them to come out that quickly and neither did the doctors. I just couldn't believe it when they had all come out in two minutes."

George was born at Calderdale Royal Hospital at 12.10pm, weighing 3lb 9oz, as was Alex, who weighed 3lb 11oz, while Thomas was born at 12.11pm, weighing 3lb 4oz - and all three are now back home with their parents and, recovering well.

Ms MsGarry, a former social worker, who had to take a break from her career to look after her first daughter Olivia, was then told that she would need to have a caesarean because a woman with her frame would find it very difficult to give birth to three children.

She said: "They said I wouldn't be able to carry further than 30 weeks because of the drain it would have on my body, carrying three children around.

"They thought I might get to 26 or 28 weeks and then they would have to induce labour but I read on the internet that babies born before 30 weeks would need to be on life support so I asked if I could hold out until after then.

"When I made it to 34 weeks they told me I was a walking miracle, they didn't understand how my body was able to carry these babies."

Identical triplets occur when one fertilised egg splits to create three separate embryos. The Multiple Births Foundation estimates that triplets occur once in every 10,000 naturally conceived births, but the odds of identical triplets are 150,000 to 160,000.
