What's in a name . . .

Residents have won a campaign to rename a bridge Tickle Cock – saying they would be offended if it was called anything else. The landmark in Castleford has been known as Tickle Cock for more than a century. The underpass was a popular place for courting couples. In recent years it has been referred to as Tittle Cott and a Tittle Cott plaque was unveiled by Wakefield Council, which annoyed some residents in the town.

Finally after a campaign, a new plaque proclaiming the site as Tickle Cock has been unveiled.

Castleford Coun Denise Jeffery, who unveiled the new plaque under the bridge, said: “Some people do call it Tickle Cock and some don’t but residents have pressured us to put this plaque back to how they felt it should be.”
