It was the 100th trials held at the event near Holmfirth in West Yorkshire, which was founded in 1908 and has been held every year since, barring interruptions caused by the First World War and the foot and mouth disease.
About 1,000 people attended this year’s trials, which also featured traditional pursuits and crafts including sheep shearing, dry stone walling, stick making, fell running, and a display by the Holme Valley Beagles, with the Skelmanthorpe B Brass Band playing throughout the day yesterday.
Event spokeswoman Helen Jubb said: “It’s gone really well. The sheep are running well and we’ve had more trade stands than ever before.”
