White van clue to charity bag thefts

POLICE are appealing for help in tracing a white van and a group of men linked to a range of thefts of charity bags in the East Riding.

Several bags containing clothes, footwear and other goods donated to the British Heart Foundation have been stolen after being left out for collection in Beverley and the surrounding area.

Humberside Police said the thefts have been occurring since November.

A spokeswoman said: “It would seem a group of men in a white van have attended several addresses in Beverley and the surrounding area and collected the bags that had been left out for collection by the registered charity.

“The theft of these bags is impacting on the funds raised for the charity organisation and police are keen to resolve the problem. The first incident was reported to police in November last year but it would appear that a number of other incidents have happened since that date.

“Information is now sought to identify the people who are committing the thefts.”
