Widow joins city road race in memory of her ‘inspiration’

A WIDOW is set to run this year’s Sheffield Half Marathon in memory of her husband, who died from stomach cancer last year at the age of just 33.

Cheryl Boulding, 30, will be raising money for St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield.

Her husband Dan Boulding had the support of the hospice’s community palliative care nursing team during the last weeks of his life.

In the months since his death last autumn, Mrs Boulding and her son, four-year-old Ethan, have also been helped by the hospice’s bereavement service.

Mrs Boulding, from Millhouse Green near Penistone, said: “The team from St Luke’s have been there with us every step of the way.

“Dan was so grateful for everyone’s support because he couldn’t have remained at home without the palliative care nursing team.

“He was in awe of them and couldn’t thank them enough for their help and support and I am still accessing their services for bereavement counseling. I just don’t know what I’d do without it.”

Mrs Boulding took up running after her husband’s death, and is now also undertaking other fundraising for the hospice in Whirlow.

She said: “Dan is such an inspiration to me and everyone that knew him.

“His love for life, having fun and helping others is giving me the strength I need to carry on and make him proud.”

Entries for this year’s Sheffield Half Marathon, which begins from the Don Valley Stadium on Sunday, May 27, have now topped 4,000.
