Wild moors inspire exhibition at park centre’s art gallery

THE inaugural exhibition of the year at an art gallery in the heart of the North York Moors, has taken its inspiration from subjects not far from home.

The new exhibition at the National Park Centre in Danby, features contemporary work by four local artists, Anne Thornhill, Paul Blackwell, Peter Reynolds and Glynis Johnson, whose inspiration is the natural wilds and landscape of the moors.

The artists’ work ranges from pottery to oil and acrylic paintings and drawings.

Alongside the exhibition, which opens on Saturday, will be a display from photographer Stephen Street.

He will show wildlife and landscape photographs taken from all over the moors.

Sally Ann Smith, the North York Moors National Park Authority’s events and exhibitions coordinator, said: “The exhibition looks wonderful and it is a great way to launch a new year for the gallery.”

She added: “This year’s programme is very exciting with new exhibitions every month from the traditional to the modern and from the established artist to the emerging one to watch.”

Both exhibitions run until March 16 with a meet-the-artist session from 12pm to 3pm on February 19 and 27.
