Wildlife watch after man fined for poaching

POLICE in Selby are working to protect wildlife after a poacher was caught in Saxton.

Richard Thomas Haigh, 32, from Bradford, pleaded guilty to night-time poaching at Selby Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Haigh was arrested on November 30 last year following a report from a member of the Rural Watch in Saxton that they had seen someone using a high powered light in the area.

Following a search, officers found Haigh trespassing on private land in possession of a high powered lamp and Saluki Lurcher dogs, both of which are often used by poachers, said police.

He was fined a total of 505.
