Wind farm company puts plans on show

RESIDENTS are being invited to find out more about a proposed wind farm near Bridlington in a public exhibition next month.

Staff from developer Wind Prospect will be on hand to answer questions about plans for a nine-turbine scheme on farmland between Thornholme and Burton Agnes, nearly four miles south-west of Bridlington.

The event, at Harpham village hall on Wednesday, April 18, from 2pm to 8pm, will also feature detailed maps, information on the environmental surveys being carried out, photomontages giving predicted views and general information on wind energy.

The wind farm would generate enough electricity, on average, to power more than 10,000 homes, and the company said it would also save about 4,000 tonnes of CO2 which would otherwise be emitted through generating electricity from fossil fuels.

Sophie Nioche, development manager at Wind Prospect, said: “We want to encourage people to come along and find out more about this project.

“We think it’s really important that the community is well informed on not only this particular proposal, but also wind energy in general as there are a lot of misconceptions out there.

“Our reliance on fossil fuels must change and wind energy plays an important role in this. It’s a well developed and clean technology that is making a tangible contribution to our energy needs.”

The company has submitted a planning application to East Riding Council for a temporary mast which would collect wind data at the site.

It is also asking the council and statutory consultees, such as English Heritage, Natural England and the Environment Agency, what information they would need to see in a planning application for the wind farm.

Ms Nioche added: “We want to hear people’s views so we can really understand the community’s concerns and address them wherever possible.”
