'Wire' star to get honorary degree from university

ACTOR Dominic West, star of gritty TV series The Wire, is set to receive an honorary degree from Sheffield Hallam University.

West, who was born in Sheffield and attended the city's Westbourne School before going on to Eton, is best-known for playing detective Jimmy McNulty but has also appeared in productions including Channel Four's The Devil's Whore.

Others set to receive an honorary degree from the university in November include Warp Films producer Mark Herbert, folk singer Kate Rusby, football referee David Elleray and chairman of the UK Electoral Commission Jenny Watson.
