Witness appeal over attack on boy, 12

POLICE investigating an assault on a 12-year-old boy in Rotherham want to trace a witness.

The boy has told investigators he was walking on Lymister Avenue, Rotherham, where he was involved in an exchange with a man, who then followed him in a silver Vauxhall Astra car as he walked into Shoreham Drive.

There he tried to run away, but the driver emerged from the car and punched him in the ribs before driving off. An 18-year-old has been arrested by officers investigating the incident, on September 5 just before 6pm.

But they believe a woman was walking nearby in Stafford Drive and she is understood to have spoken to the victim to check on his welfare. She was white, of medium build with a local accent.
