Witnesses plea two years after fatal shooting

TWO years on from the fatal shooting of a young father detectives yesterday released previously unseen CCTV footage and said they remained determined to get justice for his family.

Adam Chadwick, 20, who had a young daughter, Ruby, now five, was visiting his sister at Clifton Mount, in Harehills, Leeds, on June 24 2008 when a woman and three men came to the door at 10.40pm and following a disturbance he was shot. He died two days later.

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police believe Mr Chadwick, of Seacroft, Leeds, may have been mistaken for another man.

The footage, released yesterday, shows a group of young people outside the BP garage in nearby Roundhay Road. It is thought they may have seen those inside a car thought to have been used by Adam's killers.

Despite previous appeals, including a reconstruction on BBC's Crimewatch, detectives have been unable to trace the occupants of a blue Ford Focus C-Max vehicle, registration YH54 SBV, which they believe was used and then abandoned by those involved in Mr Chadwick's murder.

In the CCTV footage, a number of young people are seen just outside the garage on June 20 2008 before the shooting, as the Ford Focus C-Max enters the garage at about 11.30pm and fills the rear offside tyre with air before leaving and driving north towards Roundhay.

The group were also seen to speak to a number of other young people who had gathered in the garage's car cleaning bay and yesterday police appealed for them to come forward.

Det Supt Steve Payne, of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said yesterday: "Two years have now passed since Adam's tragic death and I as well as the rest of the inquiry team remain as determined as ever to catch those responsible.

"In the past we have made a number of appeals regarding the Ford Focus C- Max, which we believe was used by Adam's killers, but we have yet to receive that vital piece of information that unlocks this case.

"I would ask anyone who recognises themselves in the footage to come forward and speak to us.

"This inquiry remains very much active and it's possible those stood around the BP garage that night may have seen the occupants of the car.

"If you were one of the group at the garage please contact us. Your information, irrespective of how small and insignificant you feel it may be, could be crucial."

Police are also asking anyone with information over the movements of the Ford Focus C-Max in the two weeks after it was stolen in the Little London area of Leeds on June 11 and recovered at the junction of Chapeltown Road and Reginald Street on June 25 to get in touch.

In the five days between the car being seen at the BP garage and when it was recovered the spare tyre had been put on the rear wheel.

Mr Chadwick was shot on the doorstep of his sister's home in Clifton Mount, Harehills, Leeds, on Tuesday, June 24, 2008. He died two days later in hospital.

The woman who called at Mr Chadwick's sister's house is known to have been knocking at other doors in the area before the shooting, asking for someone called Michelle.

She was white, aged 27 to 28, 5ft 4in to 5ft 5in with dark brown hair, olive skin and dark eyes. She was wearing a baggy black fleece or cardigan over a round neck black top. An efit of the woman has been released but police have so far being unable to trace her.
