Witnesses sought to assault on boy

POLICE have appealed for witnesses to an unprovoked attack in which a driver got out of his vehicle and assaulted a teenage boy at the side of the road.

Officers said the incident happened in the Ecclesall area of Sheffield on Abbey Lane at its junction with Ecclesall Road.

The teenager was with a group of friends playing around in the snow, near the Parkhead Cricket Club.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The attacker was driving a red 4x4 pick-up style truck. He pulled up alongside the group, then got out of his vehicle and assaulted one of the boys with an unknown object, causing a nasty cut to his ear, which required medical treatment."

The suspect is described as white man, of a slim build, 6ft, about 45, with short, blond hair. He was wearing beige cargo trousers and a red woollen round-neck jumper.
