Woman, 20, dies as crash closes M62 near Leeds

A WOMAN died when her car careered off a motorway and hit a tree, in an accident which caused long tailbacks and delays into Leeds this morning.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened on the M621 just before 6.45am.

Police said the silver Citroen Saxo was travelling along the motorway towards Leeds when it left the carriageway and collided with a tree.

The 20 year old driver, who was from Leeds, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries but later died.

The M62 was closed at the junction 27 exit to the M621 and traffic was diverted, causing long queues.
