Woman, 20, is robbed in the street then sexually attacked minutes later

POLICE in Dewsbury are appealing for witnesses after a 20-year old woman was the victim of an attempted sexual assault, minutes after having her purse and mobile stolen from her.

At around 2am yesterday morning the woman was walking along Huddersfield Road, Ravensthorpe towards Calder Road when she was approached by a man and a woman who began talking to her.

During the conversation, the man put his arms around the victim and was able to take her purse and mobile from her pockets before both he and the woman he was with ran away.

The victim realised what had happened and ran after the pair. As she did, she asked an Asian man on a bicycle to help her get her property back. This second man went after the thieves but returned soon after and attempted to sexually assault the 20-year old.

He pushed the 20-year old to the ground but was fought off, the victim managing to get free and run to a friend's house where she called the police.

She described her attacker as an Asian man in his late teens or early twenties, of medium build, 5'6" tall and clean shaven. He was casually dressed and wore a dark coloured 'beanie' hat which covered his hair. He also rode a bicycle.

Three people have so far been arrested in connection with these incidents, but police would like to hear from anyone with any information that could help in their enquiries.
