West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene by the police to rescue the woman, who was found semi-submerged on top of an old sunken barge.

A cordon remained in place yesterday as officers sought to determine how the woman ended up in the water and whether any further action was needed.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “A scene is in place while officers establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
