Woman arrested over fire which left two children dead

A WOMAN was arrested last night in connection with a house fire which claimed the lives of two young children.

Niamh and Cayden Maynard, aged five and two, died in the blaze at their home in Buxton in Derbyshire on Friday night last week after they were trapped upstairs.

Their mother, Fiona Adams, 23, jumped to safety from a bedroom window onto a trampoline with her eight-month-old son, Kiernan.

Derbyshire Police confirmed last night that a 23-year-old woman from the Fairfield area of Buxton had been arrested and was being questioned over the blaze.

Ms Adams had reported noise and anti-social behaviour in her back garden just an hour before the fire started in the end-of-terrace house in Edale Way.

Derbyshire Police had previously confirmed that officers had been called to the address several times in the past three years – mainly in relation to domestic-related matters.
