Woman jailed for vicious attacks

A WOMAN who subjected a friend to a series of vicious assaults with a glass and bread knife, some of them in front of the victim’s seven-year-old son, has been jailed for 10 years.

Alison Salter, 30, of Rectory Walk, Bridlington, was sentenced at York Crown Court after pleading guilty to two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Salter committed the assaults against the 24-year-old woman at addresses in York and Selby in January 2011.

As well as attacking her with the weapons, Salter also bit her victim.

Detective Inspector Shaun Page, of North Yorkshire Police’s protecting vulnerable persons unit in York, said: “I am very pleased with the sentence handed down by the court.

“It sends a clear message that anyone committing violent crimes will face the full consequences of their actions.

“The assaults were committed by someone who the victim trusted. At the time of the offences the victim’s son, then aged seven, was present and actually witnessed the second assault taking place.

“These were vicious and nasty attacks, which have left the victim with significant, permanent scars on her face, head and arm.”
