A woman suffered life-threatening head injuries and serious pelvic injuries when she was knocked down by a car in York.
The 23-year-old was hit by a grey Skoda Octavia on Ouse Bridge at 11pm on Saturday.
She was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where police said she remains in a serious condition.
A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman today said: "The 79-year-old male driver of the Skoda was unhurt. He attended the police station as a voluntary attendee and has been released whilst enquiries continue.
"Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and contact them to assist them in determining the full circumstances surrounding the collision."
