Woman teaching assistant facing jail over sex with boy, 13

A TEACHING assistant is facing jail after being convicted of sex offences involving a 13-year-old schoolboy.

Rachel Peters, 40, was due to stand trial for 10 offences but after a jury was sworn in changed her plea on three.

A judge at Doncaster Crown Court directed the jury to return formal guilty verdicts on those three charges.

The jury was then discharged from delivering verdicts on the other seven offences with which she was charged.

Peters, of Kennington Grove, Edlington, Doncaster, carried out the offences between January 1, 2010 and September 21 that year. They are believed to have taken place out of school.

Judge Jacqueline Davies told Peters: “You have pleaded guilty to three offences which will inevitably result in a sentence of custody.”

The prosecution case was not outlined and the boy’s identity cannot be disclosed for legal reasons.

Prosecutor Kath Goddard said the three guilty pleas were acceptable to the prosecution after consultation with the boy, now aged 15, and his family.

Peters will be required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register and was granted bail on condition that she does not contact any witnesses.

Steven Crossley, representing Peters, called for psychiatric and probation reports to be compiled before she is sentenced in two months.
