Woman who broke her friend's jaw to pay £500

A WOMAN who broke a friend's jaw by kicking her in the face after a row about "flirting" has been ordered to pay her £500 compensation.

Kristina Simmonds was on a night out with friends in Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, who included Sheryl Creaghan and ended up back at a house where she was chatting to a man.

At some point the victim mentioned that Simmonds was married and when he left Simmonds called her a bitch for interfering blaming her for the man leaving.

Dave Mackay, prosecuting, said Simmonds continued arguing as they sat on opposite sides of the room until the Creaghan told her to shut up.

Simmonds challenged her to "come on" and "regrettably the complainant punched her in the chest," he said. That led to them scuffling on the floor

Simmonds left but her husband returned to tell Creaghan that if his wife had been flirting that was a matter for him and not her.

Some time later Simmonds returned and without saying anything walked over to the victim on a sofa and kicked her in the face.

The blow knocked her to the floor. A couple of days later her jaw was so bruised and swollen she could not open her mouth.

At Dewsbury Hospital she was found to have a compound fracture and two metal plates were inserted.

Simmonds, 33, of Walker Street, Dewsbury admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm. She was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years, ordered to do 150 hours' unpaid work and pay 500 compensation after Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said he accepted her remorse was genuine.

Peter Moulson, representing her, said she appreciated the "unedifying" events of that night had serious consequences for the other woman.
