Women offered place at poker table

It will host events each Wednesday, beginning on August 4.

Manager John Sunter said: "The idea of women-only evenings is not to exclude men, but to encourage more women to learn the game and ultimately become more involved in competitive poker. By offering ladies-only poker here at Napoleons on Ecclesall Road, women can play in a friendly and comfortable environment, where they can focus on improving their strategy and play."

Writer and presenter Vicky Coren, one of the country's most successful female poker players, said: "Women are socially conditioned to compete more cleverly.

"This makes them good cash players, where the qualities of patience and disguise are more profitable than bluster and a strong right arm."
