Work to begin on £600,000 leisure suite transformation

PEOPLE in Goole are being urged to make to make the most of a new fitness suite at the town’s leisure centre when it opens in August.

East Riding Council is spending £600,000 extending and refurbishing the existing suite and will begin work next week on a spacious 70-station “tone zone”.

It is the latest in a programme of investment at the authority’s leisure centres that have seen user numbers increase from 2.5 million a year to 4.1 million a year over the last two years.

The Goole fitness suite will have the latest Matrix exercise equipment, including treadmills, cross-trainers, cycles and weight training equipment, new free weights and benches, a power plate and a stretching area.

There will also be integrated televisions with Freeview boxes offering a wide choice of channels, which are iPod compatible and have personal fans.

Other work will see a private consultation room and spinning studio established along with the refurbishment of the two remaining squash courts.

The existing tone zone will be closed on Monday and Tuesday while equipment is transferred to the sports hall for the duration of the work.
