INTERNATIONAL street artist Mohammed Ali will paint the UK’s longest graffiti mural at the University of Bradford next week, creating over 1,100 sq yards of his distinctive murals.

The project, called Life in the Wall, will focus on the power of education – and words – to transform society and the world.

Mr Ali will centre his painting around powerful quotations from activists and public figures on themes such as unity, positive change and the environment, showing that the pen can overpower the sword.

His murals are known for reaching out to all people in all communities.

The artist will also be giving a free lecture about the project and his work across the globe at 5.30pm on Wednesday, September 29, at the Norcroft Centre on the university campus. Entry is by ticket from www.wegottickets.com/event/93703

The project will conclude with a grand finale at 2pm on Friday, October 1, where people can watch him complete the painting live in direct response to performances from urban poets David J and MC Jonzi-D.

Entry is free and no tickets are needed.

Mr Ali said: “Seeking knowledge and bettering ourselves as human beings by gaining knowledge is one of the core principles that drives me in the work that I do and is reflected in the themes that I paint, so it makes perfect sense to be working with an educational establishment like the University of Bradford.

“Bradford is a vibrant city, but one that has faced many challenges.

“It feels like an ideal place for my next canvas, using art to enhance the lives of people and bring something fresh and new into the public space.”

The artwork will cover building site hoardings for a cutting-edge student accommodation development called The Green.

The student village is being constructed on the university campus to the highest environmental standards.
