Work due to begin on bus station

Work is due to begin this month on improvements to Skipton bus station following feedback from passengers.

North Yorkshire County Council and Craven Council have drawn up plans for measures including widening the waiting area, providing entrance lobbies at each end, improving the stand signage, additional seating and more accessible passenger information. The improvements will be paid for by the consultants which originally designed the bus station.

County Councillor Clare Wood, executive member for public transport, said: “Now that the new bus station has been open for a couple of years, we have asked people for their feedback.

“We listened to what people were telling us and have taken on board as many of their comments as possible.” Work is due to begin on May 16 and will take around five weeks.

The shelter area will be closed to members of the public but temporary stands will be installed in the bus station.

Craven Council chief executive Paul Shevlin said: “We regret that there will be some inconvenience to those who use the bus station but hope that the improvements will be worth the wait.”
