Work due to start on library project

WORK is set to begin to extend the library in Station Road, Wombwell, near Barnsley in a £500,000 project that should create more space for community groups.

Coun Jenny Platts, Cabinet spokesperson for adults and communities at Barnsley Council, said: “We know the library is already a popular place for community groups and volunteers to gather.

“This is the start of developing additional spaces to allow more groups, along with our regular visitors, to carry out more activities to benefit the residents of Wombwell.

“We will be working hard to keep any disruptions to the car parking and normal service, to a minimum.

“We would like to thank in advance library users, residents, shoppers and local business for their patience whilst these works take place.”

The library will remain open during the work but the car park behind the building will be completely closed for 17 weeks before partially re-opening until the work is completed before the end of November.
