Work in pipeline to build new road

Work is about to get under way on a £6m scheme to create a new access road to serve Mitchell Laithes Waste Water Treatment Works in Dewsbury.

The new access road, which will include a 530ft bridge spanning the River Calder, is being built off Mill Street East close to the entrance to the Bretton Park Industrial Estate.

The new road will be constructed on Yorkshire Water’s behalf by Morgan Sindall Grontmij and it is expected that the project will be completed by the winter of next year.

The project manager, Duncan Warner, said: “Over the past few years, the treatment works has benefited from more than £25m of investment in order to further improve the quality of the discharges into the River Calder.

“It is now the fifth biggest waste water treatment works in Yorkshire, receiving sewage and industrial waste from more than 500,000 homes and businesses in the Dewsbury and Spen Valley area.

“It is essential therefore that we have long-term and sustainable traffic management system in place.

“This new road is an essential part of delivering this.”
