Work to start on affordable homes

Plans to build 29 new affordable homes in Bradford have moved forward after winning councillors' backing.

Subject to planning permission, building work on the houses in Beech Grove, Undercliffe, is due to begin in December after Bradford Council's executive approved funding for the scheme.

The 4.3m Bradford Council-led project will use 2.2m funding provided by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Rents for the three, four and five-bedroom properties will be from 71.13 to 99.55 per week, in-line with Government target levels.

Bradford Council executive member responsible for housing Coun Paul Flowers said: "This scheme will provide much-needed affordable homes in Undercliffe so it is great news that we have reached this milestone in the project.

"Dozens of families will benefit from this scheme and I hope construction can begin very soon."

A planning application for the scheme is due to be decided on November 25.

The development will be the second recent council-led housing scheme in Bradford – work started on 45 properties in West Bowling in March.
