Work starts on new park bandstand

Work is due to start next week on the first phase of a scheme to provide Haworth Central Park with a new bandstand.

The Friends of Central Park have been working with Bradford Council to replace the park’s bandstand for many years.

They are now able to begin construction of a base for the new facility with its own electricity supply using £20,000 of funding from the local community, Bradford Council’s Ward Investment Fund and the local authority’s Parks Department.

Nigel Godden, of the Friends of Central Park, said: “It will be great to see the beginnings of the final structure in place and it will give us an ideal focus for future fundraising events.”

The base will be able to be used as a performance space which will allow the Friends of Central Park to put on a programme of events to continue to raise funds to provide a bandstand canopy in the future.

Councillor The Rev Paul Flowers, Bradford Council’s executive member responsible for Sport and Leisure, said: “This is a great boost for the project. At last there will be something concrete to pin our hopes on that the rest of the canopy won’t be far behind.”
