Work starts on £7m new homes project

The start of work on the development at Middle Deepdale in Eastfield, Scarborough, the largest proposed housing scheme in North Yorkshire, will be officially marked tomorrow.

Coun Helen Mallory, the Mayor of Scarborough, will plant a tree to launch work on the development, which will see an area currently used as farmland transformed over the next 10 to 15 years into 1,350 new homes.

The first stage of the development includes a 60-apartment extra-care complex and 30 family homes, which will be funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and provided by housing and care provider Sanctuary Group.

Kebbell Homes and Keepmoat, who are working together in partnership as K2 Regeneration LLP, will also be building 182 homes.

In future it is hoped a primary school, community hall, footpaths, and public open spaces will be created, along with a link road, connecting the A64 and the A165.

David Archer, a director at Scarborough Council said: “This project really does signify a new era for Eastfield and the borough of Scarborough as a whole. By continuing to work together over the coming months and years it will prove to be transformational in delivering regeneration to the area.”

Mike Mulligan, of Kebbell Homes, said: “We are delighted to see these long-term plans coming together and are looking forward to continuing the excellent partnerships with Scarborough Borough Council as the other key landowner in the project and Keepmoat as our partner in the K2 Regeneration Partnership.”

The first stage of the project will create two new apprenticeship posts and seven apprentices will be given the chance to continue learning their trade.
