Works-death contractor named

POLICE have named a sub-contractor who was killed in an accident at the Corus steelworks in Scunthorpe.

Barry Shaw, 53, from Top Road in South Killingholme, died after becoming trapped between a lorry tractor unit and a trailer on the Rod Mill lorry park on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Shaw worked for White Liners haulage company.

A spokesman from Corus said: “Corus is carrying out its own investigation into the incident and is working closely with the external investigators, including the Health and Safety Executive, who are conducting investigations to establish the cause of the accident.”

The tragedy came four months after Thomas Standerline was crushed to death as he worked on a crane in the continuous casting plant on April 23.
