World Cup mementoes feature as football association celebrated

LEGENDARY football manager Bill Shankly once said: "Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I can assure you, it's much more important than that."

Craven District Council's Craven Museum and Gallery agrees and is celebrating over 100 years of Craven District Football Association with a new exhibition.

'Some sheep are on the pitch…" tells the story of Craven football events, along with episodes from world football from 1909 to 2009.

On display will be many objects on loan from the National Football Museum in Preston, as well as cups and trophies won in local competitions.

Visitors will be able to see an England 1966 World Cup shirt and programme and a pair of former England captain John Terry's boots.

There will also be a chance to sit on some original Wembley Stadium seats and have a go at a Spot the Ball challenge.

Ross Wiggan, visitor services officer at Craven Museum & Gallery, said: "We are very excited to be able to bring a small part of World Cup history to our museum."

Craven Museum and Gallery is open 10am to 4pm daily, except Tuesday and Sunday. Admission is free.
