World food market brings in visitors by the thousand

FROM scents and spices from faraway lands to a proper Yorkshire pork pie, thousands of visitors sampled the delights of Harrogate’s annual world food market.

The World Village Market was held at Cambridge Street over the weekend with everything on offer from award-winning pickles, chutneys, cheeses and pies, to paella, Thai noodles and ostrich burgers.

The market also featured stalls selling ethically traded arts, crafts, clothing and jewellery and organic groceries.

Event manager Paul Kennedy said: “Harrogate is always a great venue for us.

“We always fill the stalls and people really enjoy the trading environment in Harrogate.

“It is one of the few places in the country where you can sell a lot of different foodstuffs and they will all do very good business.

“Harrogate is a centre for people coming in from all over North Yorkshire and there is a very diverse range of people there.

“It went very well.”

The World Village Market was open on Friday and Saturday and has been held in the spa town for three of the last four years.

Its organisers also host the Big Green Market in York, which takes place for three days on Parliament Street at the start of November and sells ethically sourced trinkets and produce from across the globe.
