World record shout bid

A TOWN crier from Yorkshire is to test his skills against the loudest in history.

David Hinde is trying to beat Guinness World Record holder Gloucester town crier Alan Myatt’s cry of 112.8 decibels.

Mr Hinde, a marketing manager and a bass baritone who has played many roles in amateur dramatics and operatics, is Bridlington’s first town crier in a century. He said: “I think it would be quite special for Bridlington to have the record in Olympics year.”

Pulsar Instruments, of Filey, will act as independent verifier for the attempt later this year. Mr Hinde, of Bempton, beat off competition at the Knaresborough entertainment and visual arts festival at the weekend to win both best town crier and best dressed crier.
