The blast appeared to be caused by a car bomb, according to security officials.

Lebanon has been hit by a wave of bombings in recent months as the civil war in Syria increasingly spills over into its smaller neighbour. The attacks have hit both Sunni and Shiite areas, further stoking sectarian tensions that are already running high because of the war next door.
