Cannes-do Kidman

Actress Nicole Kidman proved to be the stand-out star at Cannes yesterday as she posed for the cameras in a striking red dress during a photocall for The Paperboy.

The movie, the latest offering by Precious director Lee Daniels, is an adaptation of Peter Dexter’s steamy 1995 novel set in the 1960s American south and will be among the films competing for the coveted Palm D’or.

Kidman plays Charlotte Bless, a woman who writes to prisoners on Death Row and falls for killer Hillary Van Wetter, played by John Cusack. She enlists a reporter, played by Matthew McConaughey, to investigate his conviction for the murder of a policeman.

Zac Efron features in a supporting role as McConaughey’s brother Jack, an aspiring writer who is helping to investigate the possible miscarriage of justice.
