Horn of Africa fundraising push launched

A NEW fundraising push for the Disasters Emergency Committee Horn of Africa appeal was launched yesterday.

Chancellor George Osborne was joined by former Arsenal star Patrick Vieira and ex-Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn in calling on soccer fans to donate money to support famine stricken nations during a action starting at games on November 26.

Senegalese-born Vieira, who is now Manchester City’s football development executive, said: “When, in 2011, people are dying because they can’t eat it is crazy and scary.”

Donations from the Tackle Famine event will go to help 13 million people affected by drought.
