Oscar song nomination proved off-key

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has said the decision to rescind the original song Oscar nomination for Alone Yet Not Alone from the film of the same name was a matter of integrity.

The academy revoked the song’s Oscar nod earlier in the week after it discovered composer Bruce Broughton, a music branch member, emailed 70 members of the group to alert them of his submission.

An academy statement yesterday said that Broughton’s personal promotion undermined the integrity of the Oscars voting process and created the appearance of an unfair advan- tage.
