Pilot killed as helicopters crash
A PILOT was killed and several other
people were injured in a crash involving
two police helicopters which clipped
each other as they tried land in a snowstorm near Berlin’s Olympic Stadium during a
police exercise on dealing with football violence.
It was not immediately clear whether the five injured people were in the helicopters, one of which ended up lying on its side in a field next to the stadium while the other set down next to it, still upright.
Eyewitness Johannes Malinowski told reporters he had seen three helicopters approaching but lost sight of what was going on as the snow on the field was being kicked up by the aircraft. He heard, however, “a big bang and someone shouted, ‘everybody on the ground’,” he said. “And then we looked up and there was blood on the ground.”
